Customer Reviews: Basic Melancthon and BucerJune 1, 2009 Quentin D. Stewart(USA) This volume contains an intelligent introduction to these two important Reformation works. Melanchthon's Loci Communes (Theological Commonplaces)was the first attempt to systematize the thought of the Lutheran Reformation on the basis of the Book of Romans using "theological topics." It appreared in 1521 and Luther praised the work. It is also free of the later controversial issues Melanchton inserted into later editions of this work as his thought continued to develop and diverge from Luther's.
Bucer's work is a good intro to Reformed thought and was influential in both England and amongst the Reformed on the continent.
